5 Reasons Why a Dedicated Workspace Will Change Your Life
Do you have office space to work in or do you work from the couch? Or the dining table? Or the bedroom? While these options may be fine for first starting out, having a dedicated workspace will help with your productivity, and it can also boost self-confidence knowing that there is somewhere specifically for you to go without any interruptions or distractions!
1. Manage the clutter. Think of your desk as having just one purpose: Making money. It’s not your craft table. It’s not your dining table. It’s not a space to pile up paperwork related to your kids' school or other activities. With this in mind, take away everything that doesn’t relate to making money. Get rid of the garbage, set up organization systems for your business, and shred the outdated yet important forms so you don’t have them cluttering up your workspace anymore! Once you assign that money-making mission, you're going to find focusing and being productive is much easier when you sit down to work because you're only looking at one really important thing at any given time - fulfilling orders or following-up with clients instead of wading through a sea of papers.
2. Close up shop for the weekend. Closing down your workspace for the weekend is a wonderful thing. By having a dedicated office space with its very own door you can feel free and liberated to open it at will for when you need time to simply leave your workplace behind and focus on other parts of life which, let’s face it, might be more important than those tasks you should really be dealing with right now. And speaking of closing off your work brain - it’s definitely okay if that’s something you struggle with because learning how to shut things down completely so as to be present when spending time with friends or family can prove even harder than working hard during the week! It might also take times but in terms of productivity, we feel it is well worth the effort!
3. Improve your posture. Sitting too much is bad for you. We know it’s easy to overlook when you’re working long hours in your home office as an entrepreneur, which can make you even more likely to fall victim to chronic hip pain or back injuries if left untreated. So don’t just stand up - we want you to take the right steps towards taking care of yourself by purchasing a comfortable ergonomic desk chair and keeping your back supported while sitting. Choosing to upgrade now might even result in pleasant side effects like feeling more energized when getting up again (as opposed to feeling more sore) because you'll have greater posture while also being more comfortable overall throughout the day!
4. Control your work environment. Do you want music while you work or do you prefer the calm air of silence? You should be able to switch between the two when you're not working in a shared space. Need some inspiration!? Hang your favorite photos, quotes, or wall posters – whatever helps you stay focused on what’s most important when handling tasks that have yet to be completed! Your office should be your space used for getting stuff done.
5. Boost your self-confidence. Whether you're working from home or a local coffee shop, many entrepreneurs can have a tough time maintaining a productive flow. If your office is in the middle of your living room and you're struggling to focus, try giving yourself some space to do what is necessary for your business. Buy dedicated office furniture, keep things stocked and clean on a regular basis, and make the space uncluttered by removing excess decoration items to help with productivity! The added benefit of having an office - whether it be in your living room or otherwise - is having the ability to seriously cut down on distractions while maintaining your ability to be accessible if need be. By equipping yourself with a dedicated workspace complete with wall hangings and a clear desk, you’ll start to feel like a “real CEO” running a “real business!”
While these five reasons may seem inconsequential to your day-to-day productivity and organization, they’ll help you tremendously in the long run. And don't let the size of your workspace deter you from having a dedicated office; search Pinterest for some great "tiny office" ideas!
